What we do: Education

About us
Our educational projects open up debate about the causes of social and environmental problems and develop the skills needed to solve them. We organise ourselves according to the principles of self-management and organise training courses in which we introduce self-management and help to apply it in practice. We use non-formal education methods and learn from each other.

We support movements, collectives and organizations in networking, reaching out to the public and forging new alliances. We combine the learning process with practical efforts for concrete policy change and help people organize. We don’t want to be “experts”, teaching people from above, but rather help them to jointly seek pathways towards improving the lives of themselves and the whole society. We offer training in these areas to collectives, organizations and individuals:

  • Preparing and conducting meetings - Facilitation - Feedback

Enjoyable yet effective meetings are the key to successful events and campaigns. How do you organize such a meeting, how do you run it and how do you ensure that everyone can participate? We'll teach you at a workshop, consult with you on the preparation or run the meeting with you. We will also be happy to help you get an external facilitation. In this area, we recommend our friends from the Crew of NaZemi, who can help you with feedback workshops (facilitace@nazemi.cz), among other things.

  • Organizing yourself - structures - processes

We need to build strong and actionable grassroot movements that are able to advocate for a better world for all of us. Whether it's fighting for climate justice, better conditions in workplaces or gender equality: it all depends on how well we can communicate with each other and create workable structures. We support existing and emerging collectives and groups with education and training in community organizing, group collaboration, recruiting new members or setting up internal functioning and decision-making processes.

  • Theory of Change - Strategy - Campaigns

You want to change things for the better. But how to do it? Using proven tools from the history of social movements here and around the world, we'll help you ask the right questions and find the answers tailored to your needs. From social change theory and finding our place in it, to mapping power structures and allies, to strategic planning for specific campaigns and projects. We can even throw in tips on how to organize an event from A to Z.

  • Communications

We offer consultations and workshops on communicating in traditional media, social media, creating a campaign narrative or training for spokespeople. As a climate justice movement, we are looking for stories that have the power to change the system. Therefore, we need to learn from each other to create communications that strengthen alliances and imaginations.

  • Caring - supportive relationships - psychological resilience

Social change is not a sprint, but a long run. Faced with the critical issues of the time, we sometimes forget that our resources are limited and we need to create structures that are effective but also sustainable. We start from the belief that building a successful movement also depends on the relationships we build, how we nurture our own and collective wellbeing and safety, and how we can regenerate when confronted with emotionally challenging issues. With experience in psychology, psychotherapy, and informal forms of support, we develop conversations with emerging and functioning collectives that put care, mutual support, and resilience at the center.

  • DIY workshops - window insulation

Since we are experiencing the rising energy prices first-hand, we learned together how to insulate old wooden windows cheaply and efficiently. Together with the Limits Are Us movement, we have organized dozens of solidarity insulation brigades in our homes, winter dormitories, friendly cultural institutions or housing cooperatives. If you too are interested in insulation or want to organize a solidarity brigade in your favorite place, write to us and we will help, share know-how and lend the necessary tools.

Climate Justice

Climate Justice

Global heating caused by two centuries of economic growth based on ever-increasing consumption of fossil energy causes escalating disruptions to our climate which endanger both human welfare and the long-term habitability of our planet. We are in the middle of a climate crisis - manifesting itself also in the current European droughts - which weighs heaviest on socially disadvantaged groups of people and thus deepens the already gross social inequalities. This is true both within the Czech republic, and throughout the world, where the changing climate has the worst impact on the poor countries of the Global South.
Housing

Housing

The share of tenants in the housing market is constantly growing, and in large cities in the Czech Republic they currently account for up to a third of the population. Their protection, however, is minimal. Rental prices are rising much faster than salaries and lease contracts are usually concluded for only one year, sometimes even less. People in rented accommodation are therefore living in constant insecurity and their housing costs are increasing.
Democratization of energy

Democratization of energy

There are approximately one million people living in energy poverty in the Czech Republic and we are one of them. The energy crisis is causing major energy companies, including fossil fuel companies, to make record profits, while consumers face ever-increasing energy costs. Decarbonising the energy sector and fundamentally transforming the energy market are essential to avoid the worst impacts of climate change. However, if we remain passive consumers, we will continue to be exposed to market fluctuations and uncertainties.

Solidarity Economy

Solidarity Economy

What is the economy and what or who is it for? The original meaning of the word refers to "household management". A well-managed economy could administer our planetary “household” to meet the needs of all within the boundaries of our planet. Instead, the current economy hoards meaningless wealth in the hands of a few, while denying access to basic needs for the majority and devastating the ecological foundations of life on our planet.
Financing the climate collapse

Financing the climate collapse

In the world of financial institutions, the fossil fuel industry still enjoys great support. If we are to avoid the worst effects of the climate crisis, we need financial institutions to stop supporting coal-fired power stations and to refuse to participate in the planned development of gas infrastructure, waste incineration, unsustainable biomass management and other unethical activities of fossil fuel companies.
